Potowomut

They Say: Since 1927, dedicated to golf…
POTOWOMUT GOLF CLUB IS A FAMILY ORIENTED, PRIVATE GOLF COURSE, LOCATED IN THE SCENIC POTOWOMUT SECTION OF WARWICK. THE CLUB SHOWCASES THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME WITH ITS IMPECCABLE CONDITIONS, CHALLENGING LAYOUT AND THE EXCEPTIONAL GOLF EXPERIENCE THAT YOU CAN SHARE WITH FELLOW MEMBERS.
THE CLUB WAS INCORPORATED IN 1927 AS A NINE-HOLE LAYOUT AND LATER EXPANDED IN 1947, WHEN WALTER JOHNSON, A DONALD ROSS EMPLOYEE, WAS COMMISSIONED TO DESIGN THE LAYOUT AS IT REMAINS TODAY. TRICKY GREENS, TREE-LINED FAIRWAYS, AND A LARGE COLLECTION OF WELL-PLACED BUNKERS PROVIDES A SHOT-MAKING CHALLENGE FOR ALL LEVELS OF PLAYERS.
(I don't know WHY they are saying it in all-caps . . .

We were all struck by the similarities between the two courses Potowomut & Wampoag . . . then again, they're both Old-School Country Club courses from the school of Donald Ross . . .

Wampanoag

https://www.wampanoagcc.com/
They Say: Wampanoag is among the best layouts in Connecticut and has remained mostly untouched since the clubs inception in 1924. Famed Course designerDonald Ross sculpted a championship course on this beautiful park-like piece of land.  Donald Ross is widely recognized as the leading golf architect of the 20th century - and quite possibly of all time.   He is best known for his simple designs that use the existing natural landscape to challenge golfers of all skill levels, including Pinehurst No. 2, one of the most consistently highest rated courses in the country.   Born in Scotland in 1872, Ross spent much of his adult life in the United States. He was involved in designing or redesigning close to 400 courses from 1900–1948, laying the foundation for America's golf industry, including Wampanoag, in 1924.
Definitely "Old School" if you know what I mean . . .

 #5, par 4

 #6, par 5 . . . kinda of a fouled up hole . . .
it looks like you want to go left, but that's a different fairway/rough . . . you gotta go right even tho it's a blind shot . . . fought my way out of the trees , then hit a monster 4iron to the bowl shaped green complex surround by mounds . . . only to find my ball in one of the pot bunkers inside the bowl . .. so upset I didn't get a photo of the green . .. instead of putting for birdie, hadda take a couple in the bunker then 3 putt.

 I weakly drove into a frontside bunker. . .

Gabe The Babe was 4 ft from an ace . . .
 #17
  #18. Tough par 4 finishing hole . . . I was worried about going into the creek . . . hole is 432 yds long . . . not really a concern for duffers . . . then the next shot, over the creek, up the hill . . . too much for me . . .

Knowing now that this is a Donald Ross course convinces me that there were subtleties that hampered my scoring in ways I didn't realize at the time . . . just thought i was playing like crap . . . love to try again . . .
